Democratic Governance and Rights Unit (DGRU)
A semi-autonomous entity based at the University of Cape Town with extensive experience in judicial independence.

- Enhancing Judicial Independence: Addressing tenure and financial autonomy challenges through research, engagement, and advocacy.
Objectives
– Conduct comprehensive research on tenure and financial autonomy challenges in focus countries.
– Host consultative meetings with stakeholders, including policymakers and legal professionals, to discuss reform recommendations.
– Advocate for the adoption of proposed reforms by regional and global bodies.
– Develop guidelines and recommendations to enhance judicial tenure and financial autonomy, fostering stakeholder engagement and long-term reforms.
International Commission of Jurists (ICJ)
A global NGO of legal professionals dedicated to promoting human rights and judicial independence.

Strengthening judicial independence in Africa by advancing women’s participation in justice.

– Foster regional learning through conferences and workshops.

Judicial Institute for Africa (JIFA)
Based at the University of Cape Town, specialising in judicial training and capacity building.

Empowering Ethiopia’s Judiciary: Collaborative Training and Capacity Building for Long-Term Development.
Objectives
– Strengthen judicial accountability by developing a tailored core skills training program.
– Conduct a scoping visit to assess challenges and training needs in Ethiopia.
– Develop a three-year partnership roadmap aligning support with judicial goals.
– Tailor training materials to address specific challenges faced by Ethiopian judicial officers.
– Deliver a five-day training program for at least 25 judicial officers in Addis Ababa.
Institute For Integrated Transitions
An international NGO focused on peace, democracy, and the rule of law.

Promote transparent and merit-based processes for judicial appointments and promotions at the Apex Court level, reducing political interference.
